Wellington Latin Showcase

What a long day!

The Wellington Latin Showcase happens around the same time each year. Showcasing Wellington's Latin dance schools. So many brilliant performances from Zouk, Salsa, and our own Samba no pe. It's hard to put into words the effort and dedication that go into these shows. Sometimes things go well, and other times, not so much. The number of tights and fishnets that have been damaged or the tonnes of sequence that end up on the floor. Most of the time, we ignore the craziness that happens backstage. Random children coming backstage to collect the fallen sequence as treasure, watching your dance mates stand in weird and slightly awkward positions while someone else fastens the clasps on the costumes. The unusually hot locker rooms, sweltering under the intense lights and sweaty bodies, create dizzing headaches and fatigue-driving laughter. We talk about the unflattering fat roles our beautiful costumes have created or the accidently stuck lipstick on a tooth.

The conversations are priceless and worth every minute. This is our safe space. A dancer's home and family. A place where new friends are made and celebrations bring us closer together. The bond we share as dancers is unbreakable, forged through countless hours of rehearsals and performances. In this chaotic yet magical world, we find solace in each other's company and support.

To new and old friends and to sharing beautiful memories!
